Sell gold coins in San Diego — bullion and numismatic, every era.

American Gold Eagles, Krugerrands, Maple Leafs, Buffalos, pre-1933 US coins, sovereigns, foreign gold. We price by content for modern bullion and by collector demand for numismatic pieces.

Why people sell gold coins here.

Bullion coins priced close to spot.

Modern bullion (American Eagles, Maple Leafs, Krugerrands, Buffalos, Philharmonics) trades at much tighter margins than scrap jewelry — we typically pay close to spot. The gold content per coin is exact and the secondary market is liquid, so refinery hedging cost is minimal.

Numismatic vs spot — we tell you which.

A 1908 Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle is worth dramatically more than its gold content. A 2020 Eagle isn't. We evaluate each coin for collector demand vs bullion content and price the higher of the two. Bring the coin and any grading-service slabs (PCGS, NGC).

Foreign gold — sovereigns, francs, ducats.

British sovereigns (.917 fine), French and Swiss 20-franc pieces, Dutch ducats, Mexican 50-peso, Austrian 100-corona, Indian gold mohurs — we buy them all. Pricing is by gold content (each coin has a known fine-gold weight) plus any collector premium.

Authentication, not guessing.

Every coin is verified — weight, dimensions, magnetic test, edge inspection, sometimes XRF. Modern counterfeits (especially Krugerrands and Eagles) are a real risk; we screen every coin before pricing. Genuine coins get genuine offers.

Before you visit

Three things to know before you walk in.

A gold chain and ring being weighed on a kitchen food scale

At home · weight

Honestly, you don't need a fancy scale.

A kitchen food scale is accurate to about ±1g, and that's enough to know what you're walking in with. We re-weigh to 0.01gon the counter once you're here — but the home estimate keeps your visit short and your expectations honest.

Examples of gold stamps on a chain clasp, inside a ring, and on a pendant

At home · stamps

We get asked all the time — where's the stamp?

Try the clasp on a chain, inside the band of a ring, or the back of a pendant. You're hunting for small marks: 10K, 14K, 18K, 585, or 750. Can't find one? That's normal. Pick “Not sure” on the calculator and we'll test it together when you come in.

Hands placing gold on a calibrated scale next to an XRF purity tester, an offer summary, and cash on a marble counter

On the counter · the math

80% of melt is the honest top. Here's why.

Gold passes through many handsbefore it becomes cash — refiners, dealers, market makers — and prices move throughout the day. That's why no honest counter pays 100% of melt on scrap. Anyone promising that is losing money or quietly shorting you somewhere you can't see.

But not every piece is scrap. Some rings get cleaned and re-homed. Some chains stay chains. Price is always negotiable on resaleable pieces— and we'll tell you which side your piece sits on. That's why we built this site: so you walk in informed, not lowballed across five shops.

FAQ

Sell gold coins — common questions

Do you pay spot price for gold coins?

Close to spot for recognized bullion coins (American Eagles, Maple Leafs, Krugerrands, Buffalos). The exact percentage depends on coin type and market conditions — typically 95-99% of spot for modern bullion in good condition. Numismatic coins are priced separately.

Will you buy proof or graded coins?

Yes. Proof Eagles, graded coins in PCGS/NGC slabs, and other certified pieces are common. Slabs don't always add value — modern proof bullion often trades close to bullion content despite the higher mint price. We pay current market, not original cost.

How do you check if a gold coin is authentic?

Weight (each genuine coin has an exact spec to within 0.01g), diameter, thickness, magnetic response (gold isn't magnetic; many fakes are), edge reeding, and occasionally XRF. American Eagles have specific design micro-features Rolex-style counterfeits don't get right. We verify before pricing.
